In Nietzsche, both the term and the topic of a »Gay Science« are paradoxical, since the philosopher is in many of his texts actually fi ghting against science. He does so, because there is something reactive and, eventually, sad about the desire for knowledge. How then could readers of Freud make sense of this ambiguity, when putting it into relation with the double-sided and complex connection between death drive and sexual drive?
