Abstract

This paper deals with the question of « Lay Analysis » and its parallels to theatre. Particularly, the conscious not-knowing of the Freudian lay analysts shall by analyzed while comparing the demeanor and the poses of the psychoanalyst with those of the actor. Additionally, this paper wants to ask if learned composures are generally counterproductive, both in the creative realm as well as in the psychoanalytic practice. Finally, this paper also looks critically at the trained abstinence of many analysts, opting instead for an analysis with more outreach, one which breaks with the rigorous classical setting, while valuing the authentic not-knowing of the lay analysts.
