Lacan’s analysis of the case of Aimée has shed new light on the question of transference in psychosis. In contrast to the widely shared opinion of Freud and his successors that transference does not exist in psychosis, psychotic transference is in fact exemplary for Lacan’s concept of transference per se. Unlike Freud, Lacan’s approach to psychotic transference is free of the burden of neurosis. This essay looks at Lacan’s concept of (psychotic) transference, paying particular attention to the concept of the sujet supposé savoir (and its implication of an exluded Autre supposé savoir) as well as to the matheme of transference. This is the fi rst part of a translation of a longer text by Jean Allouch. Against the background of Lacan’s working with Aimée the second part of the text will deal with the clinical questions that an analytical approach to psychosis raises. This second part will be published in RISS 90
This text is a compressed and translated version of the chapter »du transfert psychotique« from Allouch, Jean: Marguerite ou l’Aimée de Lacan. Paris 1990: EPEL
