Two serious scientists, Freud and Marx, are forced to include the soul into their theories. »Soul«, together with »love«, marks the boundary of what can be grasped by hard science and thus serves as a necessary criticism, development but also irritation of science. However, such a necessity, resulting from the practice of theory, also raises the question of the boundaries of the individual and the subject. Freud could only guess what enormous demands he made on our thought and work with his concept of transference and its political and juridical aspects.
