Picking up on two late notes by Freud (»Mysticism is the obscure self-perception of the realm outside the ego, of the id.«/»Psyche is extended; knows nothing about it.«) Lacan’s topology of »L’Entre-deux-Morts« shall be explored, putting particular emphasis on the epistemological conditions on the line of the second death: Can the beyond, situated behind the line of the second death, be thought or should it rather be avoided? From there, from the line of the second death, we are able to think both towards the Borromean world and towards the beyond. This paper concludes by reflecting on the question of how psychoanalysis should position itself not only vis-à-vis the individual subject but also social and philosophical matters.
